Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Does anyone bother with 5K races anymore - i.e. ones that aren parkruns?

There are a couple of nice local 5K races that I like to do - there's a series in the summer that's great fun, and a ladies only event, all in the evening, and all very reasonably priced.

I did do a 5k in Battersea Park run by Sri Chinmoy / Self-Transcendence. They also do races in Edinburgh and both locations have numerous races during the year.

Unless circumstances have changed (it was a few years ago and a one-off), entry was cheap, no chip timing and medals are only given to the first handful of finishers.

I have 2 5k's entered - my first ever 5k (apart from a few parkruns) was the Dunecht Dash and I still like doing that one as my runaversiray and Chariots of fire 5k along the sands just like the film ( it's quite a distance to travel but a lovely sight )

Like many people my parkruns are in any case always preceded by a run. It takes me 2.5k to warm up at my age. Then I can do parkrun..

I do a 5K Summer Series every year. It's in local Woodlands so is far hillier and muddier than any parkrun. It's run by a local Running Club and some of the proceeds go to the Woodlands Trust. It's only £6 a race but it's probably the only 5 k I'd be happy to pay to do.

Sale Sizzlers. Flat a bit twisty. Winners can go low 15 mins. Everyone goes mad. Proper race not a run around a park, an eyeballs out race.

Oooh Lip Gloss, the Chariots of Fire race sounds fab. I've just spent the last hour looking for motorhome pitches near there after reading your post - we've got booked in so I'm going to enter the race!!!
