Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Hello. Please can I join this thread? My first ever XC experience (first of many I hope!) will be the South of Thames 5mls XC at Lloyd Park on 15th November. Can't wait! :)

Any experience of that terrain? Should it be XC spikes? Or does it depend on the weather? I also have inov8 fell shoes?

Thx

What's with all the name changes???! SerendipitySarahL - Lloyd Park is pretty muddy in places. I ran on the 25th October in my light weight trail shoes - some girls used spikes (I DON'T think you need spikes) - HOWEVER if it rains load in between now and then, you might need spikes. I would bring a variety of shoes with you!! I will. Oh and it's not that hard a course either ;-)

My Inov8 Mudclaws are quite deep tread, but I'm sure long spikes would have been better. And fell shoes are prob heavier than spikes. Weight oesn't make much difference to me, but for faster peeps it prob does.

Enjoy the XC SL - I love it. Can't really compare your times/pace rigorously, if that's what floats your boat. But it's certainly fun - trying not to land on your @rse! And the mud was so thick in mine that that I nearly lost a shoe/stuck fast in it. There were lots of grins on faces at the end - and thick mud on a few as well! Enjoy!

There is about 5metres of tarmac - but you can by pass this and run on the grass - especially if you are wearing spikes. In my opinion (and I do race there) Inovs will be fine for the race.

Thanks peeps! I'm really looking forward to these XC races. I know times will be out the window - I'm looking forward to some great mud face plants, team spirit and of course cake. And the pre-chatter about shoes just makes it even more exciting!!

Are there different length spikes then? I just got the ones that came with the shoes...?

MrsBBLB - someone took my name when I changed it to a Halloween name, so I'm now SerendipityL :) I prefer it! :)

My XC spikes came with 6" spikes - but you can get 12" as well....I am sure someone else can elaborate more.

I'd agree with Boo re Lloyd Park Sarah..not really one for spikes (even short ones i would think) as there are some flinty paths which can be hard to run on in spikes - i think i usually wear my Walsh waffles for Lloyd Park, but Innovs will be cool. Shame i can't do that XC race :-(
