Hi Claire, until now I have worn spikes which are lighter than most road/xc shoes. At Leamington I made the mistake of trying out my INOV295, they got full of water and heavy and did slip a little.
So having experience of both I will most definately be going back to my spikes next time.

Had a spikes fail today at Parliament, taking a tumble at corner two. That's 2-0 to that course on me and falling over (something I have never done elsewhere). Off to find some new spikes to wear in before Feb because I think I'm not getting on with my current pair.
Was great watching the London Youth XC Games though! Some amazingly fast tiny people

Started a race for the first time in 11 months today at the Bham XC league fixture in Northampton today. Was a nice easy(ish) course for a first race back. 4 laps around of 2.5km. Started easy and started picking of people, then gave it full beans for the last lap, but went a little to deep and had to slow down before picking up again before the finish. Twas fun to be back on the country.

Quite slippy at Boggart Hole today. Fun to race though.

Well.... I absolutely loved the Worcs / Warwickshire county XC course at Cofton park today. It had ups, downs, and a good selection of mud. It's a venue I've never run, only marshalled at. Feel like my XC legs are returning as I was up on a few who were beating me in the leagues before Xmas, felt strong rather than wishing it would all end, so progress! Temperature dropped a lot during the men's race looked like at least one hypothermic casualty

^ My club hosted today's champs. I love Cofton Park (it was my first ever XC race in 2009 in the snow :-)), it's a course that certainly sorts out who is on form vs who is not as there is no respite (unlike my first race back in Dec at Northampton). I had an indifferent race and went backwards in the middle which doesn't usually happen. Ok last lap. I made the 'mistake' of doing weights on Wednesday and Thursday which probably killed my legs (My last weights session is usually on Tuesday before a weekend race).
Was oddly told to slow down coming into the finish funnel as I was try to catch the guy ahead and just missed. I quite good going downhill and that couple with a the finish meant I was going way faster than the guy in front. Thought it was hilarious that they were asking me to slow down before the race ended, lol. It's easy enough to swap positions in the line after, but you always race past the line.

Sounds like a great course and a good run Ndellar! Sorry to hear about you going backwards SPR and the finish sounds a bit odd. Weights do tend to deaden the top end speed.
Surrey County for me today. Wet and muddy, a third place for my club mate and third team which I just scrapped into (club mate two secs back!). Second ever Surrey medal for me today and we put some other teams in their rightful places Shame I had a shocker of a run, but I did race a 10k two days ago so it was kind of expected! Great mud though even if I was regretting running on the second lap the medal was worth the pain!

Thanks - BRAT did an excellent job today. I really hope we get Cofton park as a venue for another champs or Birmingham Ladies race.
LOL @ slow down in to the finish, I too would leg it first, sort it out after like anyone in their right mind would listen!!
