If 'they' can do it with child allowance, or winter fuel allowance, they can do it with state pension. Either increase the age threshold (as if!) Or choose an income level where it tails off or stops, eg from £50k on, lose £1250 per £5k taxable, so that above £100k there's no SSP. Or choose any other numbers that 90% plus couldn't care about. Although the people with money or pensions like that are largely those with tax free cash outside of pension pots, so 'free' and untaxed when drawn down, or they're the Civil Service mandarins, ex and future MPs, professional 'quango' and 'think tank' people with gold plated index liked pensions, so not the people who would be targetting themselves. |

They do seem to have it in for well off pensioners. Hopefully the bloodied nose over winter fuel might make them think twice....

The potential for shifting goalposts is really quite annoying. My state pension age has already changed several times in my working life. The HMRC keep messing about with dates for submitting and paying tax returns for the self employed. It was bad enough when we went from paying in arrears to paying in advance. Now I’ve been hit by needing to change my year end, giving me a 19-month year 😬

Life expectancy has increased noticeably over our lifetime. State pensions need to be paid for from taxation. The triple lock has largely protected state pensioners from the fall in living standards that many less well off working people have seen. I've got no problem with us (OK it's a year until I'll be a state pensioner ![]() As I get older it's more important to me that we have a fully functioning NHS, so want to see more funding to that, and that implies additional taxation. There's no such thing as a free lunch |

My private income is only going to be about same as state pension income. So that would halve my income. Ouch. But agree, country can't afford it, without massive increase in taxation. High earner and/or high asset wealth taxation anyone?! ![]() |

High asset wealth taxation will be looking for a % of your property and pension as well though. This is why I am in such a quandry. On the face of it as things stand today I should be OK if I stopped working. But, changes to state pension, changes in taxation, increased cost of living, potential need for private medical care or care home could mean in 10, 15, 20 years its a very different landscape. |

Agree Pix Just thinking about sneaking away for a couple of days in the van seeing as the weather is good - lovely not to be tied down by work constraints (although do have to be back by Wednesday for Nana duties 😂) |
