Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Indeed, EY, that's my standard excuse. I once placed first in the M60 category ... because I was the only one who turned up by a fluke. The M65+ and M70+ were both a country mile ahead and I think the M75+ was slightly ahead.

I think some folk just have good genetics.

Aye, that'd be him, @Ally-C, I've just checked the results. I was quarter of an hour behind. He was in the top half overall.

Of course, round here we have multiple age-group WR holder Fiona Mathieson, started in her fifties; and another guy set an age-group WR at a local 10K.

Jose went on to set age world records in 10 different distances. I travelled with her when she broke the V75 world marathon record at Gosport. I think good genetics and no injury history

:-) That's me and my mum!

I won't bore you with the photos I have, but her standout runs were 3:35 as a W65 in London (world best at the time, I think), and a 46-minute track 10000m at Palmer Park, Reading, which was I think a UK W70 best. She ran in a few world and European Champs, as a result of which I have inherited this:

In more deluded pensioner running news, Rod Stewart is aiming to beat the over-80s 100m world record. He's well off the pace though as he got the current record wrong.

About This Thread

Maintained by Muttley
In my last race, a very tough 12-miler along a stretch of the coastal path in Cornwall, the finisher ahead of me was a female V75 (she said she was 78). I'm a male V65. I consoled myself by thinking that she must have been doing it all her life, nobody decides to take up running in their 60s or 70s just like that.

I was wrong, some of them do ... :-(
