Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'm starting the plan next Tuesday for VLM and one of my main concerns is fitting in the longer midweek run too. My other concern is I have spent so long base training at around 9mm pace that I wont have the speed endurance to do the more quality sessions I need to hit target. We shall see...

4.30am rises on medium long run days for me. I think as far as P&D goes these are a vital part of the plan and one of the reasons it works so well.

Agree davie, if you want it enough you will find the time. Running what 70 mpw at an average of 8mm is only 9 hours 20 minus of running per week!

Tinselator, dont worry to much about the faster sessions. It shouln't take too much to start workign at LT and MP and of course you should train at current race paces not target. So hopefully as the day gets closer the paces become much more realistic.

Hi P&Dlers,
I haven't quite decided but I'm considering a late spring marathon (edinburgh on 25th may) with the 18/55 plan. Any tips on how to prepare for the plan? What did people's base training involve? Any tempo, hills or resistance training?

Thanks and good luck for those starting the plan for VLM soon :-)

For base just ramp up miles and keep it all easy.

Well apart from missing Monday I'm managing to stick to the plan reasonably well so far. I'm actually slightly worried that it's not as intense as the training I was doing in the lead up, but then I look ahead to a run of 100+ miles per week and decide not to worry!

Today was my first run with some strides tagged on. First time in ages, and it was real fun to just blast out some top speed. 10 reps was over too quickly and I'm looking forward to my next one already :)
