Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

What's the difference between a M1 and a lifted increase?

A lifted increase involves making a stitch by picking up a part of the stitch on the row below the one you're increasing rather than the bar of yarn between stitches on the same row. It has the advantage of not creating a tiny hole beneath the new stitch, unlike M1.

What matters most is that you keep the increase you use consistent and you like how it looks.

I used lifted increases on the raglans in this ... (the photo at the bottom shows it best)

And M1s in this ...

Ah, thanks!

I can never remember which is M1R and M1L anyway and always have to look it up!

I'm on the final lace border of the Magrathea. I thought it was good I had the right number of stitches (even) to start the border, but discovered that I've lost two along the way when I hit the row with a 6 stitch repeat. (I actually remember patching up at least one dropped stitch in the garter stitch body)
I've fudged it by missing out a couple of k2tog and I think once I've finished I'll struggle to see where it was.

It's going to need some serious blocking!

The serious blocking is what puts me off making a Magrathea.

That and my resolution not to make any more flat things because I don't wear them.

I'm struggling with colours

I'm going to do the wedges in the 2 balls of Katia darling in the middle - purple/black/red. The options I have available for the contrast welts are these - I'm really drawn to the bright orange, but would it be too much? I'd normally ask Girl, but she's climbing in .Scotland at the moment

Forget that, I've found something else that I'd forgotten about - a sparkly mohair lace weight with long colour changes. I'm going to use that doubled as the welts as it will contrast in both colour and texture and give more colour interest - hopefully. Of course it may just all look awful :-)

Enjoy HB!

I have been watching youtube clips of lifted increases - a thing of which I had never heard before; I blame my mother for not bringing me up properly. The ones on the raglan, V'rap, are very neat.

My latest creation with a scrollsaw. Forgot to sand off the paper cutting template before I took a picture but you get the idea.....

The wood broke so the 'antenna' that a butterfly would normally have , have been reduced to ears :-)
