Maravan race report race distance just under 26.7 miles so not far off half a mile longer than a marathon. Was a bit cold when starting but soon warmed up to nice running conditions swapping lead with 2 other runners till around mile 1 when I took the lead and ended up running the rest of the race solo. Time probably affected by this and a decision I made to concentrate on keeping in front and not risk blowing up as I figured this would probably be my only chance of winning a race. Felt comfortable all way round and my main worry on the last of the seven laps was taking a wrong turning (very unlikely as the course was very well signposted and by the 7th lap I should have known my way π). Won the race by four minutes and according to fetch I went through the marathon point in 3:19.33 Pleased with run and how legs felt especially as my build up had been geared towards the half marathon with only one 20+ mile run. Will continue with the easy interval method style training as that seems to work for me. A lovely well organised but low key event will be back next year |

Well done, riggys99. TBH I was expecting to hear of a fade! You must have paced that well at the start ππ»

Ace! 5.2 miles, 670 feet of climb and pain free. Err, pain free as in my troublesome Achilles appears to have largely healed. Hard work, but I really did feel like a runner for the first time in months

Well done riggys99. Forgot to start Garmin for 3/4 mile so did more mileage than stated. Some different uphills today. Hard trying to keep HR in zone 2 with the headwind. Will do that route again. |

Today my watch suggested a recovery run. It was about -2 with gusty windchill making it feel lower. There was a dusting of snow, as forecast. The evening before I added spikes to my trail shoes, which give some security though not strictly necessary yet, there being no melting and refreezing. Did about 35 mins.

Currently daylight is 8:20 to 15:39 but the sun moves at a shallow angle, so twilight lasts quite long, from 7:31 to 16:28. I'm not much further up than the top of Scotland, a couple of car-hours further up than Bowman in Sweden, just across the border. Light gets better when there is some snow on the ground, too.
