Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

oi you
I've used these type of scales for some time. I don't supose they're especially accurate, but they are at least consistent. They estimate me at 7% (ish) body fat whch is just silly, but it is consistently silly. As my wieght changes the figure tracks it up and down.
It's probably not difficult to do, technically speaking. Once you've programmed in your age, gender, height etc it can use your weight & electrical impedance - mine uses 4 sensors - to estimate overall body composition using look-up data.

I have Tanita scales that do most of that, they're a good basic guide if you're careful to take readings in a consistent way, first thing in the morning best for me.

Can help if see a fat% reduction even when no weight loss.

I have some Tanita scales that are quite old and some of these amazon.co.uk which give a body fat 10% lower than the Tanita ones (but closer to what the fancy gym ones thought). They come with a bonkers app that finds stones quite confusing (but that's fine as long as you can work out that 9st 15lbs is 10st 1lb), and opens up by telling me 'the health is not applicable'. It does water and muscle and BMI and stuff. TBH the best gauge for me is jeans tightness/muffin top size.

But are they? according to mine, of a stone lost, 9lbs is bone mass. On that basis by the time I get to a BMI of 25, I should also look like a poo emoji.
