Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Two falls worthy of note:

I once completed the Wasdale Horseshoe race only to trip over on the smooth flat grassy finishing field within sight of the funnel, dislocating my shoulder in the process. Made for a painful drive home.

I also once fell down a bell pit whilst out training near my home, knocking myself out and breaking my wrist. I had to be rescued by a dog walker with a dog lead.

Yes, quite regularly, I've become quite good at landing softly.

Only time during a race was a club XC handicap, I was closely following another runner, tripped over a tree root, performed a forward-roll and was back on my feet without losing much distance on him at all. I only wish someone could have seen it! :-)

How deep was the bell pit, Fellrunning? That could have been very serious!

My most spectacular fall was on a training run when hurdling a large puddle on a track that had been cut up by off roaders. I missed landing on the other side and face planted in the puddle; fully submerged I broke three ribs on the stones in the bottom of the "rut". The eight miles home were painful and initially squelchy. :)

The pit was around 20 ft deep. There was also a big puddle at the bottom. Fortunately I didn't end up face down in it.

I'm like Vrap I can trip over air.

Quite a few over the years worst ones were fractured elbow and a black eye, that was two separate incidents.

*touches wood* I’ve not fallen whilst running yet though I’ve tripped and stumbled forwards many times.

My best fall was out walking when we came across some mud that was as slippery as ice. I call it my comedy fall and it felt like it happened in slow motion, one foot slipped forwards, then I hastily put it down under me and the other foot slipped forwards, repeat for 4 or 5 foot slips until I finally landed on my arse.
