rf fozzy, is the fell races thing perhaps not more to do with the difficulty in having a course measured to the required accuracy standard? In which case though, logically they shouldn't accept any results.

reading that saw off 5mins of my nightshift.
All I know is that the nearest parkrun to me is 40mins and a £3 tunnel fee away and I wish there was one closer. (no I can't set one up, shift pattern far too random and unkown)

In Wales the Fell Race issue is purely to do with the organisers generally not having an affiliation to Welsh and hence UKA. I seem to remember that at the same time as the chump up North made the news with his "Boycott Parkrun" antics, Run Britain announced that it was insuring all Parkruns, a very odd thing to do for a non-race I feel.
Some people need to read "The Emperor's New Clothes" by Hans Christian Andersen, just because you insist in something, that doesn't stop people who can see the truth pointing it out.

The Parkrun homepage says "from beginners to Olympians - Parkrun is for everyone - open to all, simple to enter - join the parkrun family - running a race, was never easier". I like that it's open to everyone and the emphasis seems to be on enjoyment. It encourages people who would not dream of entering races to join in, families take part along with those obviously using them as time trials. Friendly, informal and social.

I don't think it should be added as a category but interestingly, on the parkrun volunteer database system, one of the assigned duties is a "Race Director". Most parkruns have a number of "Race Directors" and one "Event Director".
So....if parkrun isn't a race and "Race for Life" is, let's get podiums up at all the RfL and ensure no-one, anywhere, walks them. Finishing times for everyone and someone running around with a pointy stick at the back to ensure no-one slacks off.

You forgot the points league. If that's not competitive I don't know what is as you get more points the faster you run.
RACE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright, alright - we've all had a drink.
I think parkrun is both a race and a social run - the requirement to gut the pig being diminished by the free-ness and regular-ness of it. And some people want to fence them off in their training logs for that reason, I'd guess. If I wanted to look at all my races (where, 9 times out of 10, I've gone at it), it'd be nice not to include parkruns (where I only go for it maybe 3 times out of 10).

LOL I even log the 30 minute jogs with my daughter as a race
Fetch - you are far too nice with all the categories you give people many of which are beyond pointless.
Now about my demands .......
