I will add that it has taken me until this week to come to grips with strides. Early on in the schedule I struggled to get my hr down after the strides and the rr / general sessions became really tough. That has suddenly sorted itself and over the last 2 weeks my hr has dropped on comparable sessions (also on lsrs). I have read on other threads that hr improvements can come in pretty big jumps. I hope this is mine.

I've never really understood what the point of the strides is. Specially when they are part of a recovery run. I think the only thing I gain is that they are a good opportunity to think about form.

Bree, my understanding is that strides promote economical running? But are so short there are no injury risks but also no benefits as in VO2 max.

The way i see strides is a way to focus on form, also reminds your body how to run quick and certainly ever runner would benefit from them

They seem pointless, interval sessions are for going quick!

intervals are the icing on the cake when you are coming up to your key race Strides can be done all year round esp n the base period

First time doing the MP run for me today.
The 18 week/55mpw schedule said 15 miles with 12 at MP, but because I think this plan is a bit light on long runs, I was going to do 20 with 12 at MP. Bad route measurement on my part meant it ended up at 21+ but I managed bang on 3:15 MP for the 12 so am very pleased with that. It was hard though.
When I first looked at P&D I was dreading these runs, but when I realised there were only 2 I thought I would have a go. Hopefully I can manage one more.

I'm just over 7 weeks out from my target race now and the plan moves away from tempo runs and has just intervals and tune up races. I can understand the speed benefit of intervals, but it seems very early to stop doing tempo runs. Have others found that this works?

Bree, I have followed P&D for the last 3 marathons and again for Abingdon on Sunday, I follow as closely to the plan as possible and it seems to work for me
