Bit disappointed with my run today 37:09.

I tried running to a goal on my watch (I plugged in 36 min for 10k and it didn't really help). I was ahead of goal at the start and thought I was running easy, the first couple of miles and I felt really good and people around me were breathing much harder and I felt in control. Was at the turn in about 18:10 and knew it was slightly downhill and with any wind there was on the way back but the 36 goal, and any chance of a PB (36:34), started to slip away from me. I just had nothing in the legs, I was breathing fine, slightly harder in the last mile, but had no power in the legs.

I've another crack at the 10k in early December (5 weeks away), and think I'll make myself go out a bit easier to avoid making the same mistakes.

I averaged 156 bpm (my max is 165), and looking back I was definitely running harder than it felt at the start.

Lovely day for a bike ride, we were top team which is a rare occurrence. Parkin and bonfires and a (dismal village) firework display to come :-)

Maybe not quite what you both hoped for but 37ish 10ks are still quite tasty...

Damn you beat me by 5 seconds brunski!

I ran the first 5k in 18.03 which doesn’t read for a nice split. There was a nice tail wind on the way out which is my excuse, what’s yours?

I’m hopeful on a better course/day a sub 37 is in the legs

Sorry to hear that neither of you got what you hoped for in your 10ks.

Parkin sounds nice jda, wouldn't have fancied the bike today - far too cold for me - though there must have been a local audax or reliability ride on as I saw several large peletons on my run.

Which 10k in five weeks Brunski?

Chris & Brunski - Although you’re both disappointed, they are great times nevertheless! 👍🏻

Chris - no excuse whatsoever, I wasn't sure of my form apart from last weekends 17:38 parkrun so probably set my goal too fast and got too high on the HR too early meaning I just ran out of steam on the way back - That's the problem with me (setting unrealistic goals).

I'd have been better off setting it to run to PB pace (36:34), but even doing that may have led to disappointment as my run came in at 6.27 miles today as my watch beeped that I'd done before 37 minutes (not that you can trust gps to such an extent) - others had it come in slightly long as well.

LMH - it's the Percy pud (Sheffield), and I'm mistaken it's 4 weeks away rather than 5. I'll have a week doing what I like then another 3 week cycle of this 10k plan I've adapted.

Chip time was 37.12 so only 3 seconds behind!

The marathon wasn’t that long ago so I’m sure there will be some lingering effects. In the past I’ve been ok running up to 5k after a mara but struggled for 8 weeks on anything longer.

Hopefully 4 weeks will be enough for a better crack at it

JDA I meant to say congrats on the top team at the cycling event JDA, and I hope the fireworks ended up being better than you expected!

Cheers Lee, I felt I gave it what I had today so no regrets in that respect. Good to baseline where I am over 10k with 4 weeks until I try again!

Yeah Chris, marathon may have still been in the legs a bit, and have recently switched to more speedwork, so possibly body not used to those stresses yet either.

I'm not giving up on the idea of running sub-36 in 4 weeks time, but if I do it'll be following a slower start and building into the race!
