We’ve no children, I’ve a sister who only has step children I’ve no real bond with or animosity tbf & my wife has a brother who had no kids.
Tbh, all of the above are fairly comfortable & we’d rather leave anything to charities than any distant claimants. There’s a decent chance we’d out live our siblings too.
Anyone been in the same boat? I’m thinking animal or hillwalking associated charities with any living relatives getting a token amount.
Even if we blow our pensions the house is worth something.

Always expensive, but get a lawyer to draft. There may well be conditions and such like that you want to apply to gifts to charities that might be easy to express in plain english but difficult to translate into the arcane world of wills and trusts!
We've done a moderately complex one as we need one of our adult sons to have his funds held in a trust when we die because of his learning disabilities etc. It felt like money well spent in the end as the peace of mind knowing it should all stand up to scrutiny was valuable to us.

We're similar, Ally-C - though may well have used up property funds by time we peg it. We're in the process of rewriting - it's surprising how much things can change in a relatively few years.
My partner will probably leave to Woodland Trust and the like, I'm thinking more of the arts. -something like dance scholarships. 'Some' animal charities are already quite rich - I think RSPB is very well supported for instance

Get a will written up. My mum used to say the main thing is people you don’t want your inherentence going not getting it. She didn’t leave me anything in her will

If you have friends who could use a bit of money then no harm in considering them too.

I did that in the will I wrote 15 years ago, jda - and now one friend is better off than I will ever be and anything I'd left her would be a tiny drop in her plentiful ocean.

I have no close family, or needy friends so I have left my estate to a charity. I named a specific charity but was advised to say that should the charity no longer exist when I die then my estate to go to another charity that does the same work/cause.

Perhaps worth updating your will? Ours have certainly changed a few times over the years.

Yeah, that's what we're both doing. It keeps getting put off but is a must. At least we HAVE wills with the main bit done that won't change. Everything to the surviving partner. We're not married so it's extra important.

Possibly consider Power of Attorney, too.
