I like white coffee but sometimes a latte is just too much, so I often have "A white Americano" and yes, I am sometimes asked if I would like milk with it! |

Carp, on the local radio earlier today there was an item about the most pretentious means of serving food/drink that listeners had experienced (eg served on roof slates, chips in a wire basket, flowerpot, breakfast on a shovel, etc). The outright winner was deemed to be a coffee service: hot water, coffee (presumably an espresso) and milk, served in three individual test tubes, to be mixed by the customer....

Duchess - here's the BBC link to that one... bbc.co.uk "I wanted a coffee. Not a science experiment." |

I went into a cafe on the Isle of Wight a couple of weeks ago - it took me right back in time. On the menu was tea 80p and coffee £1.10. There were 2 old ladies serving and they made a cup of good old-fashioned instant coffee, served in a cup and saucer with a spoon. Aaahhh - the simple life. ![]() |

Duchess, have you ever seen We Want Plates on Twitter or Facebook? Railing against that sort of thing. I have been served a cup of hot water with the teabag still wrapped on the saucer. |

Yes, I've seen that one, but even so I thought coffee in three test tubes was so far beyond "going too far" it was almost coming back on itself. I can almost get the teabag thing; my mum and brother both believe that tea should be made by taking the teabag out a soon a you've finished poi ring the hot water on it. My dad and I believ you should walk a few miles while you're waiting.... |

There is an endless tea-making debate in our house. My wife puts the milk in first and I put it in after. My theory is that you get a more milky tea with the milk going in first whereas putting it in after allows you to judge its strength better. Neither of us are prepared to budge!
