[It may be unconventional for all of these people to have made speeches, but when the gathered guests are squirming on hard seats after 90 minutes of being talked at, it’s not fun. If you do decide to make a speech Vrap, I suggest that you try to coordinate with the other orators to try and limit how long the guests are having to endure. That didn’t happen yesterday. If there had been some nooses in the marquee, I think that there may have been a queue of people wanting to take advantage]

My dad was offered the chance to make a speech at my wedding but declined. If my son wanted me to make one, then I would. I have also been at a wedding where the bride made a speech.
I don't think the number of speeches is the issue but it certainly becomes one if they go on a bit, even with the traditional three.

[I made a speech at my wedding as we didn’t have a best man. The xh wasn’t keen on speaking in public either so we made it pretty short.]

My TV has randomly decided to retune itself so all the channel numbers are messed up. I don't want to have to press 104 for C4HD and I can't see the difference from SD on my TV anyway!!!

[at my brothers wedding the other week they had the traditional 3 speeches but requested they be fairly short - his speech as groom was essentially "thanks for coming, isn't my now-wife beautiful, enjoy the party". Best man's speech was a little longer, but still decently short and to the point. Father of the brides speech went on.. And on.. And on.. He had 7 points to make, and each was backed up with a lengthy "hilarious" anecdote which on the face of it was about the bride, but the whole thing seemed very much a case of him trying to make himself the centre of attention.. And all the while the guests are restless and getting hungry and the waiting staff were clearly itching to get the food served.. It was not fun.]

I made a speech at our wedding. our speeches did go on a bit too long (my dad got a bit carried away because there's so many nice things to say about me) but hey, it was our wedding, and I was paying lots of money for my guests to eat a lovely dinner after the speeches so if they had to squirm for an extra 15 minutes, so be it
