Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Congratulations MM and CAZ. 12 years seems quite quick.

I could bring up no 350 on New Year's Day. But getting every possible run in is a stretch. Coming up on 15 years for that total.

I’ve been parkrunning for 11 years but took me a long time to do more than a few per year. Started November 2012 and had done 25 by some point in 2020. Now up to 115.

Gobi, here is the shirt. Torbay is my local, as you know, but the rest are in order that I did them in. Devon and Cornwall are still fairly sparsely populated when it comes to parkruns, but amazing to think that when I started Killerton was my nearest, which was a drive up the M5. Then Parke was my home run for a while, when I lived in Newton Abbot, although still a 25min drive. I feel lucky that Torbay is 1.5 miles away now. Reading the list brings back some nice memories, involving holidays, weekends away or other events that I was in the area for.

Lip Gloss, that was a nice weekend. I was there for Loch Ness Marathon. I did the parkrun and then went and picked up my race number etc, as it seemed did quite a lot of other marathon runners. That weekend there were 442 finishers, whereas the weekends either side were 166 and 207. I’ve done Loch Ness Marathon twice, but the first time I arrived on the Saturday and wasn’t able to do the parkrun. The second time I arrived on the Friday, mainly so I could do the parkrun!

Forgive the long post…but seeing them listed like that has prompted some memories. Feel free to ignore :)

My favourite is still probably Eden Project. It feels very special running with the biomes in view. Woolacombe Dunes is very good - I’ve only done it once, but I loved it. It’s a couple of hours from me though so we made the weekend of it in the van. Parke, Killerton, Lanhydrock, Trelissick are all National Trust places and are very good, albeit challenging, and always high on the list of the most challenging UK parkruns. Bolberry Down is also NT, but not that challenging, although right on the coast path so really nice views. As it happens, Torbay, my local, is probably the fastest course of the ones I’ve done. It’s my parkrun PB course - the winter course is quicker for me than the summer course.

Tokoinranta is close to the centre of Helsinki, although very quiet and low numbers. I was in the city with a large group of friends, and myself and one other went to do the parkrun, and it was a lovely course.

Hellbrunn, near Salzburg, was stunning. It was flat, but there were views of the mountains. I was there for the marathon and it was warm that weekend! Very nice city though.

Thurso is the most northern one on the British mainland, and we were up there in the van. There were salmon in the river, which was a nice sight. I had intended to do Land’s End the week after but it didn’t happen (still haven’t done it).

Dolgellau was lovely too, and I’d say has a strong case for having the best post-event coffee and cake shop I’ve visited :)

Southampton I had my knuckles wrapped. I was there for an AGM, but did the parkrun so arrived a little late to the AGM. Priorities!

Milano and Dreilandrgarten were when we were away in the van earlier this year, which was a great trip. It’s still a regret of mine that I didn’t do one in Berlin when I was there for the marathon - it was just really heavy rain and I opted to stay in bed, which felt the right decision at the time!

Cornerstone Lakes was my 50th parkrun location, on the outskirts of Chicago, and I was there for the marathon. Not many Brits will have done that one so far, as it’s a new event and not easy to get to on public transport from the city. We had hired a couple of coaches to get us out there.

Knockbracken Reservoir in NI was the weekend of my 100th marathon that I did at Belfast marathon the day after. We had gone over in the van and the week after I did Morecambe parkrun as we travelled home. That one was flat and fast!

Thornbury was a bit of a mistake as I had forgotten I’d done it when I turned up the second time, and it only dawned on me when I entered the park! We were on the way ‘up north’ on both occasions

My running has been very poor this year (suffering with PF), but parkrun has helped keep me going and the shirt has prompted recalling some really nice memories. Thanks for indulging me if you got this far :)

Big_G I was finisher 428 at Inverness parkrun that week! They had run out of tokens by then so we're handing out scraps of paper with numbers hastily scribbled on. 🤣
