Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

What responsibilities does the Foreign Sec have? Clearly he can get engaged in the Middle East peace process if he wants, or go and give a talk at the UN, but is he allowed to have any personal policies in the way other ministers have?

We already have ambassadors... Does he have to be good at going to parties xxxxxx receptions?

Maybe his job is to approve the ambassadors' expenses.

From Yes Prime Minister:
Israeli Ambassador: It's well known that in the British Foreign Office an instruction from the Prime Minister becomes a request from the Foreign Secretary, then a recommendation from the Minister of State and, finally, just a suggestion to the ambassador. If it ever gets that far.

More like how he was an ambassador for London around the world as mayor, roving role to keep him out of the way

Bearing in mind how far from stupid he actually is, I wonder if he might make a great success of the English eccentric role overseas?

I wonder how the IRS will view him arriving in the States.... "Here's your bill, sir...."?

I don't agree with a US citizen being able to be a British Foreign Secretary.

Really? He has dual nationality because he was born in the usa (to British parents) and has not lived in the USA since he was 5. I have a 5 year old son. He doesn't remember things he did when he was 4. I don't think Boris is likely to be biased towards the US.

I thought he'd renounced his US citizenship about six months ago (presumably with the idea that it was holding back his bid for the UK premiership, aha-ha-ha-hah!).

You may be right. Also, just possibly, to avoid US income tax.
