Via a LinkedIn contact: “ With the latest update in late May 2024, you may now be experiencing a bug with Microsoft Excel 365. This is a significant issue relating to inserting and deleting rows or columns in your workbook. We've seen that Excel can sometimes fail to insert or delete rows and columns but assume it has been done in dependent formulae. For example, cells linking to the range where you may try to insert a row shift their formulae as if the row was created, therefore linking to the wrong cell(s). We have noticed this on our machines and those of many of our clients. It has to do with the latest build of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft is aware of and working on it. They suggest rolling back to an older version of Excel as per their response on a forum.” |

Eek! That could be quite nasty! As long as it doesn't mess with my "days to retirement calculator" I think I'll probably cope. ![]() |

Not entirely found a use for it yet, but discovered the existence of the "let" function in Excel since 2020. Might help solve an issue for someone at some point. support.microsoft.com Feels more "programmy" so can see me using it at some point if i remember!! |

Interesting. I don't think their examples are great at giving compelling reasons, but it could remove having a helper cell for the intermediate result (so I wonder if that would mean the speed with the helper cell would be similar to the Let)

I think it helps with nested ifs and that sort of thing, which are ugly and hard to decipher. Though of course there are better ways to do things with helper columns etc too. I suspect the main benefit is making readable formula. Now I know it exists I'll try to reverse engineer an opportunity to use it! |

The most useful application of LET I have found is when used with FILTER, and for example an array generated with UNIQUE. =LET(a, UNIQUE(A:A), FILTER(a,a<>0)) |

Hiya, I have an Excel-Adjacent query and wondered if anyone could help (my usual go-to guy has had the audacity to take Annual Leave, and internet guides are baffling my tiny brain!) I have a Power BI report taking an Excel Spreadsheet as its dataset. I'm wanting to update the report by replacing the spreadsheet with a new one (of the same name and general shape, just with different data). Is there anything special I need to do so that it updates? I've tried a practice spreadsheet and report (some nonsense about favourite colours, animals, etc) but I can't get it to do what I want! |
