Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

So after both of the 5k's I've run I have a headache. It feels similar to my usual hormonal migraines. Does anyone else get this and how do I make it go away?

Hi there I would suspect maybe you're dehydrated? Make sure you have plenty of water before the race/run and take water with you as well and when you get back have a drink of water too.

I dont know how long you've been running for but it was quite a little while for me before I could drop taking water on a run when I first started.

I've run 13 k in the last week and that's the sum total of my adult running. I've not been carrying a water bottle, mostly because of trying to coordinate carrying something but I'm going to try and get one of those hand hold-y ones and see if that helps.

It settles as you get smoother and more coordinated.
Its not necessarily dehydration, I wouldn't carry water unless you are thirsty when you are out, just make sure you drink when you get back.

If I feel rough after a run I find several cups of tea help. :-)

Migraine can be triggered by exercise, and if you ask Dr Google for advice about "exertional headache" there's loads of information there.

You're not going to get dehydrated running 5k in a temperate climate.

I would agree that it is dehydration. I have experienced the onset of headaches towards the end of a marathon. Even to the point of carrying a couple of Nurofen with me if it became really bad (not used as yet).

It will probably settle down as your body gets used to running - hopefully. You certainly don't need to carry water with you for 5k but probably best to ensure you are reasonably hydrated and not starving hungry before you start.
