Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

What SoapM said. If you start too fast you'll slow down horribly at thd end, and you won't believe how slowly those last few miles are. That's what happened to me anyway. Start steady, even a bit slower. I don't know how many run Embra, but you may not have much choice about your initial pace if you're in thd middle of a huge crowd.

The one time I deliberately started slow, I STILL got slower and it was a massive pyschological disadvantage to me to not have "time in the bank" to be allowed top have bad bits, so to speak
I realise Im unusual in this, but nowadays I just assume I am going to do a postive split and accept it

Another vote for evens here. It is better headology to let the fast ones go, let them blow up, and catch them later on!

I would aim for even pace - certianly upto 18-20miles, it is then it will start to dig in. Goin off too 'quick' i think you will pay later.

Is there something about every 10s per mile too quick at the start of a mara costing 5 mins at the end?

Oh - idea - get a group of you together all aiming for the same pace, ask on Fetch, am sure there are others. I did that in 08, and ended up with abt 5 of us all aiming for 4hrs (give or take). Worked really well, and means that FP is even more awesome.

Do the first 5k at 5k pace, then hang in there for the remaining 23 odd miles. Adrenaline will get you home.

I'm aiming for average pace of 7.27mm in Llanelli Sunday, am not aiming to be much faster than 7.30 pace by 10 miles, on MP by 20 and then suck it and see...
