Enjoy it while I'm doing it? Not often but not never.

Hate it while I'm doing it? No, not at all.

I enjoy having done it and I enjoy the challenges that come with it of trying to manage the sessions and control the technique and build the progress towards a goal. That was always a big part of what I liked about running too.

I get a lot of satisfaction from completing a session and hitting the paces that were targeted, or from doing that 2k test (of 1k, or 5k or whatever) and seeing the improvement).

I'm enjoying that it's a different challenge from running and I'm enjoying that "speedwork" in some form can feature more in the rowing plan that when I was running because of the lower injury risk. I like pushing myself and I'd pretty much forgotten about that.

And I generally enjoyed the being outdoors and seeing the birds and trees and all that when I was running but I was often running in the dark and in suburban settings anyway so mostly I was seeing dog-walkers and houses I'd run past before.

I'd say that I enjoy being on a rowing training plan but I'm not often grinning while I knock out a steady 10k at 5.30am!

Excellent Muttley, i definitely think its a great cross training tool.

Hmm yes Nellers, i think i agree with you and can certainly see where you're coming from, the challenge the progress etc

But yes not many smiles per mile.

Actually i’d Also say the β€œme time” element of it chimes with me. An hour on the rower with good podcasts and no contact from the rest of the world is a good thing. Meditative.

The same was/will be again try if running to a great extent.

Good question lammo. I'm enjoying it for many of the same reasons as Nellers. I used to enjoy speedwork when I was running more consistently and the rowing is a way of getting that same buzz without the injury risk. And I think it's helping with the return to running by building CV fitness, so I can run faster (though not necessarily further) and with better form than if I wasn't doing the cross-training.

I'm more motivated to row than run at the moment because I can see absolute improvements with my rowing, whereas any improvements in my running are all relative these days. I do wonder how I'll feel when the rowing starts to plateau, though...

I've mused on this since lunchtime. I get a lot of satisfaction from rowing and that makes me happy. That's not the same as actually enjoying thrashing myself through the 16 x 250s session that's on the plan for tonight but it's plenty.

Definitely not much grinning tonight during the sesh. Plenty of grimacing. 16 x 250m at fastest possible pace.

Turns out that's about 1:40 pace, give or take.

Also turns out that doing that hurts like a bastard. Totally lacking in immediate pleasure but brimming over with satisfaction and delayed gratification.

How long were the recoveries ? Were they active or did you just flop about on the floor? πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

250m recoveries. The shortest was about 1.26, The longest was nearer 2.30 I think. a bit of paddling, a sip of fluids, sometimes a towel down. The longest one included an earphone cable adjustment.
