I've done a search and the last thread for Rowing was back in 2011 so I figure we'd best start again.

I've buggered my Achilles so I can't run.

The rowing machine at the gym doesn't seem to cause me any problems.

I have a friend who has done a 2000m indoor rower race in 8 minutes dead, give or take a fraction.

I did a 2000m time trial the other day in 9 minutes second time on the machine.

I can never walk away from a challenge because I'm a bloody idiot.

Therefore: It's on!

Who else fancies a go?

Who else is already doing better than that?

What are your experiences with indoor rowing as X-Training?

What are the benefits, pitfalls, dangers, highpoints etc?

Talk to me.:-)

I saw something on telly recently that said that the rowers are the most underused machines at the gym but actually give you the best all over workout. :)

I haven't been on a rower for yonks now so don't think I'll join in this challenge this year, thanks. ;-)

Oh, and have you signed up for this year's new version of the Plankathon yet? Just 5 minutes a day for 2 weeks. There's a thread and links for it here /www.fetcheveryone.com/viewtopic.php?id=57764

One of the things I liked about the rowers at the gym is that they are rarely being used. I was on my own on them for most of my session tonight.

Well on that list I'm the 2327th fastest old bloke. I reckon you're right about being able to get some improvement on the 9 minute time, Lammo. I'm going to give it 2 or 3 weeks of doing 3 rowing sessions a week and have another go at the 2k time trial.

I joined a gym last October when I was injured and couldn't run. I got into the rowing as good aerobic exercise but low impact on the joints.

Sadly the gym had a refit at the end of December and now has no rowers, although they have been "coming soon" for three months now...
