Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The aerial sequences were great. And a huge contrast to the very claustrophobic underwater scenes. As I said, I loved it. Haven’t physically held my breath in the cinema for a very long time! :)

I saw The Substance on Mubi. Entertaining in parts ,interesting ideas but far too long and just a bit silly in places. for example the blood scene reminded me of the "anyone for tennis Monty Python sketch

Advice needed please. I’ve been given an old DVD player but it seems complicated to get connection cables for it to my new TV. I also wonder about the playing quality. I’ve been looking at getting a new one and it looks like I prob ought to get a blu-ray player, as they will play DVDs too. There don’t seem to be many solely DVD players available anymore.

Anyone got any advice please?

The quality of an older DVD player will be just fine, even on an HD TV (that's my set up).

If all that's holding you back is a cable, they'll be easy to source: you can find almost any X-to-Y cable these days (within reason).

@Oranj I spoke to a guy at Richer Sounds and he said I’d need three parts to go from my old DVD player to the new tele as a straightforward cable won’t work. I guess I need to go back to him to ask exactly what I need. It’s 3 different components I think. They only sell one of the components. Because I don’t know what I’m doing, it’s daunting to try to find all the bits and then connect it all together.

@Red Squirrel Sounds complicated. I had to do a similar dodge to connect an old Hitachi Freeview Recorder to my TV and the resulting quality was terrible, but the DVD-to-HDTV seems to work OK.

YMMV
