Unexpected! Flav being flav I wonder, and falling out with Oakes. Timing has got to be related to the Doohan conversation.

It's odd to think that just over two years ago this was a top 5 team, ahead of McLaren.

They've not had any stability at the top, and have been really inconsistent. I find it hard to see the point in Alpine tbh. Not "garagistes" but also not really pushing a big enough brand either. And also with equivocal support from the parent company.

Alpine is Renault, right? They were huge in F1, in rally, generally big motorsport brand formerly. Just no longer a priority for them? Do they brand anything Alpine in the retail car industry? ![]() |

I've seen a handful of Alpine on the road recently, so they are making some progress. But yes, I was aware that Alpine was a sub-brand of Renault, their "performance" brand. That's what I mean by it not making huge sense (to me). Surely it would make more marketing sense to push Renault? But Renault are pushing Alpine, not just in F1 but in WEC too. Maybe there are markets where the Alpine does better... |

It'll make less sense when they don't even use a Renault engine soon.

Decent article on the current state of play ref overtaking. the-race.com Whilst I don't subscribe to Max's definition of "not natural" (to me that is Max saying "my natural style should be allowed" which I bump against because I think his natural style is too aggressive), the guidelines have definitely had an impact on some decision making in terms of overtaking inside or outside. And in some respects the tactic of Max to run the outside car off the road on the exit of the corner have now been allowed for, so it's not all anti-Max direction (as I read it). |
