Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Substantial quantity of yarn deposited at the local village community centre yesterday morning - well, not actually in there, we did what was probably a very suspicious-looking swap from our car boot into another woman's car boot, so she could take it away and sort through it all.

(Cynical Mr JK said she was probably going to pick out all the best stuff for herself! I'm sure that's not the case.)

No action yet (by Mrs WM) but prior to the new living room carpet being fitted, as we were unloading the many (many!) glasses from the display cabinet, Mrs Wm did wonder aloud why she keeps quite so many when we don't have need of more than half a dozen of each. And maybe it's time to get rid of some. Particularly, the sherry glasses - because I don't think we own any sherry, let alone be offering it to visitors.

Entire cupboards and bureaux (plural) devoted to storage of old crystalware here and at my mother's house (having come from my grandparents). We use it sometimes for a bit of variety, Christmas etc.

We're on a bit of a decluttering mission, though I'm trying to think of it as a long-term mindset rather than a project to blitz through. At some point in the next 5-10 years we will want to move somewhere smaller and in all probability we will have my mother's large house packed with stuff to deal with along the way. We simply need to dispose of more than we acquire over the long term.

Nobody needs that many glasses! Even if you entertain regularly you could get by with 8-10 wine glasses and water glasses and just hire if you need more!

(She says, having 8 champagne flutes and about 16 wine glasses. I did get rid of a lot of glasses to make space when my finance moved in)

I got rid of quite a few glasses recently and a "spare" dinner service as I don't think I'll be having parties or big entertainments any more. Just need to keep going through the year.....

When I was at mum's I found 3 kitchen cupboards filled with different plates that are before my memory.

Bath had been divorced so both had previous sets, plus inherited stuff, plus a service they bought themselves

It appears my mum didn't get rid of anything, ever. I keep uncovering little pockets of birthday cards. Today I found the box marked "Reader's Digest 1970-75" - they moved house twice since then...

".... This month, each of you must get rid of one thing on the first day. On the second, two things. Three items on the third. So forth, and so on. Anything can go! Clothes, furniture, electronics, tools, decorations, etc. Donate, sell, or trash. Whatever you do, each material possession must be out of your house—and out of your life—by midnight each day."
