Ah. I don’t know DeeGee. I do know that I only found out last week that sloth is pronounced sloth and not slowth.

Why isn't it pronounced sigh-fi (short i)
And shouldn't wifi be pronounced wifey ?

jennywren, that's a US / UK thing: it's sloth in British English, slowth in American English.

My teenage daughter used to have a go at me for pronouncing it the English way; the look on her face when I played a couple of audio files to prove that I was actually right was an absolute picture.

I'm surprised the Académie française has let that go unchallenged.

Although as an English word it actually means nothing. Not like the German version, "WLAN".

Mr W didn't believe me about Segue. He thought (from reading) is was seeg. Luckily I learnt it from hearing it on the radio.

Lizzie, I only learnt segue in the last couple of years. I’m sure Fetch used it in a podcast - or maybe the thread about the podcast - and for some reason the penny dropped :-)
