Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Mr UE
Fantastic support again, well done Brightonians. Kept up my ever presence brighton record with a reasonable 3.38.57...roll on next year :-)

Congratulations to all those running today. We were helping with volunteering this year and you all looked good. Hope you all got times that you're proud of.

Brighton Rant:
I ran Brighton yesterday and I'm really starting to notice the number of people wearing earphones. Now the rules say no earphones, but yielded on the bone conduction ones. There should be no earphones.
1. It is crowded out there ... for the whole course. Having wayward meanderers drifting around is a hazard to them and other runners.
2. It's crowded out there ... so loads of people to either race against (if you want that) or chat to. It's a sociable thing - BE SOCIABLE!
3. I think part of a marathon, any race, is living with yourself and not drowning it out. Completing a marathon is as much a mental trail as physical. It makes you a stronger person.

If you want to run with earphones and isolate yourself, then please p*ss off somewhere and do it otherwise join the human race (get that?) and experience the full deal.

Thankfully, triathlon has more common sense and just bans them or you get a DQ.

What do you guys think. Fetch - how about a poll?

I enjoyed the day despite still struggling through a shortage of training mileage, which hopefully will sort itself out in the coming weeks.

On a down side, where were the extra trains Southern Rail were supposed to be putting on? I waited for well over half-an-hour for the first train to arrive (normally there are a few more in that time) which was heaving. On arriving at Preston Park, we ended up not moving on the platform for about 15 minutes. There were some ladies running the 10k near us who were getting really concerned about making it on time.

I won't go on too much about the number of toilets in Preston Park as you can judge that one for yourselves!

The course seemed more congested than ever before. I started in 'pink' and usually take about 9 minutes to get through the start line. Somehow, it took me 17 minutes this year and could not get into any running rhythm until mile 10.

We went back to 2010 again between miles 23-25; i.e. no runner segregation from the spectators. A narrow corridor with spectators constantly crossing or getting in the way.

Whinge over, I'll be back again for 2016.

There was a lot of work being done along the seafront this year Surrey Phil so less space for runners and spectators. Maybe the people watching should have stood in the sea? ;-)

Thanks to all the Fetchies I said hello to on the way around. I got/gave a cheer at Fetch point too.

I was with Scooby Dave at the start and bumped into Surrey Phil which was nice. I'm pretty sure we saw him on the big screen as he finished too!

I love the shirts though, they are surely the more standout shirts on the course, making it very easy for me to be seen by the support team (wife and kids!)

I signed up for next years race at the expo, so will be there in 2016 too!

Smugbloke, I think the headphone issue is a perenial arguement. You have hit the nail on the head with your comments, but there will always be people who say they train with music, so thats why they have headphone for the race.

Welcome to Fetch BTW.

I made good use of the queue for the loos .Sorted out my race day admin, (changing, number of top, splash on some sunscreen). By the time I'd used the loo, I was all but ready to race.

Good to see the Fetchies on the course, and in The Globe.

Finished yesterday thinking I didn't want to do that again, but of course today I'm thinking of entering next years race. Why does running marathons do this to me.....?
