Curiosity and a quick google/facebook search suggests the 'claimed' finish time as 4:51 ( But it's odd either way as you say.

That is odd. Even a 4:51 finishing time does not add up, considering that the last timing mat (at 15k - top of hill going towards Rottingdean) was 2:36:34. He must have invented some sort of Duckworth-Lewis method for runners who don't finish.

I’m still on for this, although recent form suggests I’ll be crawling around rather than running.

I think that if he'd broken a record or won a big prize it would be worth reporting, but as he (probably) hasn't done either, and it was nearly 2 years ago I wouldn't worry about it!

The timings do seem to suggest that he got to halfway, stopped for lunch then turned round and headed for the finish but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter too much :)

Thanks JJJ. From a runners' perspective, the annoying bit is that he has put his videos and certificate on YouTube and accepting the plaudits on Facebook.

Plaudits are there but if he's used it to drive up donations to a charity; it's a bit misleading but do people donate to reward the 'completion' or to assist the charity/cause?

I'm largely indifferent to anyone claiming / cheating their way around races until they are using those results to claim entry to something else at the detriment of a 'real' finisher (i.e. qualification times).

I see that the London to Brighton Bike Ride has been cancelled. It was originally rescheduled to the same day as the marathon, then changed to 19 September due to the clash. They were concerned about calling it off at the last minute due to the ongoing Covid-19 so have made an early decision.

Well, today would have been marathon day and about now we will have started making our way into the coloured corrals. Sunny with a max of 12 degrees - it would have been a glorious day for the race with a large number of spectators. That is, any other year and without a global pandemic, of course.

My fitness levels are pretty poor at present so the September date has worked out well for me.

So how have you spent today's 'race day.' I did the St George's Day Virtual 10k (Nice Work) this morning which I found quite hard going but I'll happily take the 52:40.

Got something to say?
