Well after everyone being so positive about it I've got to try it now! How did you find getting in the long runs during the week? |

I followed (roughly) the up to 55 miles a week schedule for my first mara... all was well until I decided to detour off it and run a 23 mile long run... it went well, so well I thought I do some speedwork in the same week... and promptly tore a calf... that was a beginners mistake I will never EVER make again. Stick to the schedule and you will be fine! No doubt Paul a will be along shortly to sing P&D's praises as well... |

what sort of paces did you do in relation to marathon pace for the mid week aerobic medium long runs and for the recovery runs?

Just about to start the 18 week upto 55 miles per week. Im abit confused about my pace for the general aerobic runs. Is general aerobic an easy run or a steady state. im looking at the Mcmillan calculator and my tempo pace is 7.00 to 7.23. Then steady state is 7.23 to 7.36. Easy is 8.17 to 8.47. Im thinking or hoping its the easy pace as the steady state seems very quick. What does anyone else think? |

Ian/Hellen, I am on the P&D up to 70 mile plan runningtimes.com for the second time. I am aiming for a 3:15 marathon and do the general aerobic runs on undulating roads at about 8:00 m/m pace. I think a "steady" pace is about right, as explained by P&D below, but it can depend on how tired you are due to the midweek medium/long run. "General Aerobic Runs General aerobic runs include any run of ten miles or less that’s done at a steady pace. Faster runs of this length fall into the lactate threshold category, whereas slower runs are specifically for recovery. In other words, these are your standard, moderate-effort, putting-in-the-miles runs. The intention of your general aerobic runs is to enhance your overall aerobic conditioning through boosting your training volume; these runs improve your marathon readiness because many of the beneficial adaptations that improve endurance are related to the total volume of training." |
