PB ! well first time I have raced 20 miles so that was a dead cert anyway lol.
Got picked up by Rken & Heyjude then went and got DD and LL and headed off to Oakley. Arrived and finally got parked, walked to the start got our numbers and sweatshirt, a lovely green number this year very fetching (pardon the pun). Then queued and got the bags dropped off and had a quick toilet stop.
Although this was chip timed it was from the gun so got close ish to the front, plan was 8.25m/m pace all the way. Started off a bit quick, kept slowing but still did first mile too fast at 7.56m/m kept slowing but still too quick !
At about mile 3 la bandit from Stamford Striders caught up with me and we then proceeded to run and chat the rest together, miles were still a bit quick but felt comfortable and were fairly even so kept with it. Lovely course apart from a little to much traffic.
Saw LL running the smaller loop backward twice a few times and also saw Flanker, Mr & Mrs Jiggs, Michelle (Ramsey) Gill Homles and a few other fetchies I didn't recognise.
Took shot bloks at 7, 12, 15 & 17 miles and didn't carry any water, using the water stations everytime they came up.
Some parts hard work and undulating throughout the course but happy with performance, looking forward to taper time very much now and carb loading from week after next
Overall ended up with 8.14m/m average which is a little quicker than planned but all felt good.
If anyone has iphone/ipads then you can track me and DD at Brighton using the 'Brighton Marathon App, numbers 7732 & 7739.
Great cakes and treats at end and big thanks to K&J for driving. Off for a loverly roast beef dinner now and maybe a glass of vino
super duper PB , sounds like a challanging race but do-able, well not long to go now for you two, enjoy tapering and esp lovely dinner .(and the wine)
A fantastic steady solid race-well done!
Fantastic run Swerver, taper time now. Enjoy the vino :0)
I think more than "maybe" a glass of vino! Great run as always and no idea how you managed to chat all the way round! All enjoyment now till the big day!
Cracking run , totally deserved pb, brighton beckons. Thanks for the coffee too.
I'm not surprised at all Jude to hear he chatted all the way round!! lol. Cracking run and pace, huge well done.
Great performance. Any way that those of us who aren't paying for Steve Job's next Lear Jet can follow you?
