Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

It appears to be the BBC 'style' but when they hand over from one presenter to another, it's always, "Naga, thank you" or Dan, thank you" or John, thank you" ... ALWAYS ! It's never the normal "Thank you John" or whoever. Yes, it's trivial but after hearing it ten times a day for ever, it's really beginning to dry-ride my last nerve !

No matter how careful I am when opening a can of sardines the lid flicks a dollop of tomato sauce on my jumper.

Every bloody time

Sardines should only be in oil.
The tomato sauce is for pilchards, and the tins are proper round ones, so it doesn't splash.

Used to have the same problem but changed technique! Rather than bending once (however gently) to snap, which results in 'spring back' and spray, I now gently move the lid back and forward when it's close to that breaking point until it just separates and breaks away peacefully.

If I have mackerel, it has to be loaded with spicy tomato sauce to hide as much fishiness as possible.

I admit to preferring my mackerel and sardines grilled, near the harbour...

Sardines in tomato sauce make an excellent stuffing for a red pepper, roasted in the oven.
