Jono.
Mind you the thought of trains running about with only one member of staff on is slightly worrying - even more astonished to find out that its already occurring on many trains - I mean, they wouldn't let a plane take off with just the pilot?

Grayling wouldn't understand the concept of safety in this context if it got up and hit him in the face.

Exactly. It's about continuing safety after an accident, and safety isn't the usual word for that.

Yes, and the one member of staff is behind a locked door at the front of the train and would have no idea about anything happening on board unless someone pulled the emergency thingy.

+1 cackleberry. People sharing warnings about various things on Facebook and saying "I don't know if it's true but just in case..." Here, let me spend 20 seconds on Google for you. |

Planes can land themselves except in a strong wind, and some airlines train cabin crew to set that up.

[30% of the UK rail network currently runs with driver only operation. Some other services (DLR) don't even have drivers. Personally when apparently fare evasion is a massive concern and passenger behaviour another I don't know why you wouldn't want a second staff member on the train. The operational safety issue seems a bit of a canard.] +100 for Carpathius. Especially when the poster (as they usually do) encourages you to pass it on to everyone you know. Just in case. |

[Forgot a link relating to the DOO issue, if you have a couple of days to spare. Pass it on to anyone you know who ever catches a train. Just in case. railforums.co.uk ]

DLR was designed to run without any staff at all but within the first week of operation, there had been several incidents of passengers getting stuck in closing doors which then caused the emergency brakes to come on, and halted the whole DLR network (albeit at the time it was only Stratford to Mudchute).
