Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

What do you know today, that you did not yesterday?

Fragile Do Not Bend
The world’s largest roundabout is in Malaysia, it’s 3.5km in diameter.

I’ve no idea when a roundabout stops being a roundabout and becomes a ring road :)

Depends on whether there’s anything other than dead space, marshes or dragons within it. M25 is definitely a roundabout by that measure.

Where does that leave the Shepherd and Flock in Farnham or the original Army and Navy in Chelmsford, both of which have/had pubs in the middle?

Shepherd and Flock was the first thing I thought of too. Not just a pub on that, a bunch of houses too.

Of course, the junction of Waterloo Bridge Road and the A3200 in Waterloo has contained a cinema for many years now.

Well, one distinction must be whether there is traffic flowing both ways or one way around it.

On the Magic Roundabout in Swindon traffic flows in ways that simply can’t be described. Best choose your exit road, close your eyes and just drive!

ER, there is a similar roundabout in Hemel Hempstead where I grew up. It's very simple, each mini roundabout has normal roundabout rules, ie give way to the right, its just you can go anti-clockwise or clockwise around the group of roundabouts depending on which turning you take. It works brilliantly for people who use it a lot but chaos ensues when someone hasn't seen it before and tries to break the rules!

The advantage of the Plough Roundabout in Hemel over that monstrosity in Swindon is that at least Hemel's roundabout has a large green space with trees on, so it's quite easy to see as linked mini roundabouts rather than a whole roundabout in itself. I spent a lot of time in Hemel as a kid and thought nothing unusual about it.

Swindon's monstrous effort, though, has a tiny concrete island slapped down onto what appears to be the carpark of the Country Ground.
