Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Why did you duck out of the finish?

I briefly considered the National but decided against it. Travel and not sure about a huge XC race like that. Good opportunity to do it if it's on your doorstep.

Guest runner protocol for the series. It avoids complicating the results with a timed finisher but no position token.

Interesting so guests are basically not in the race at all. Not sure whether our league even allows guests TBF and they could skew series points if counted.

Yes, think that's the logic. TBH I don't think they get many guests!

Midlands XC wasn't great but onwards and upwards.

In other news, I've been convinced to do the National. Entry deadline was extended till today.

Excellent stuff, it's a good venue - or at least it was about 6 years ago the last time that it hosted the Cheshire champs. I was a mere spectator then though. It was muddy enough in my parenting role, so I suspect plenty of mud for the runners too.

With the number of races, I expect it'll be a mud bath by the men's race. I hear it's a flat course.

It definitely wasn't flat last time. Maybe long and draggy climbs rather than anything short and sharp though.

Cool. I've been told it might be congested early but there will be space to move through so planning to start as normal and hopefully be able to finish strong although it will be my second longest race ever (yesterday ended up short at just over 10km instead of the advertised 12km).

Northern XC 11.5km, I couldn't race it properly but used it as a tough workout to test how body responds, wasn't far off race effort but way off the pace. Smart watch said I need 4 days to recover afterwards, so I think my Nationals appearance will be a similar session & physiological response. Frustrating as in October/ Nov I felt like I was well on the way to getting back to pre-covid form then non-covid lurgy that wouldn't shift hit hard.

A good summer & I might be fitter for the 23-24 xc season, never know.
