Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

If one looks at the Fetch percentages for all marathon times fetcheveryone.com/league-percentages.php one finds just sub-4 at the 47th percentile.

Boing! Any takers for 2024?

I've entered three marathons. Seville (18th Feb) may be a DNS and won't be anywhere near sub-4 if I do decide to participate rather than spectate. I'm hoping to be able to prepare reasonably well for Belfast (5th May) but it's too far out to call. Valencia (1st Dec) is pure FOMO and MUCH too far out to call.

I'd like a GFA time for London in 2025 before the deadline. By the time I do Belfast I'll have gone up into an age category for which the GFA time is currently a relatively unscary (though still not EASY) 4:30. However, I won't be surprised if that's tightened up this year.

Hmmm. I was vaguely thinking of trying to finally break 4 hours at MK (at just the 13th attempt), but now The Boy has signed up for his first half (the Great Birmingham Run) and now I'm tempted to run it with him - if he'll have me.
And given the pace he'll make me run and the fact that it's the day before MK, there's little to no chance of running a fast marathon. (Even if I pace him for the first 10-15k, I'll probably be broken.)

Tricky, theOtherRichard! My sensible head says, "Let the boy have all his own glory at Birmingham and give MK your best shot," but I know I'd always be drawn off-target by the prospect of running with a family member.

You're right, of course Velociraptor. I should just let him run it and content myself to offering unhelpful training advice from the periphery.

There's no big urgency to run sub-4 at MK this year. There will always be next year (and the next etc.) And I managed to break the non-MK 4-hour barrier last year.

I'll see if he has an opinion on the matter and decide from there.

Good plan :) Although a time will come when there isn't always next year. I'm hoping I haven't run my last ever sub-4 and I'll peak again, but at this age it's never certain.
