i'd probably recommend for you not to be tempted to put too much of a slower time than your able to do RMO3B's. i think sometimes that's tempting when you're a novice but it can hinder you in the pool swimming with other people in your lane who are too slow and you end up having to keep overtaking which can tire you

Just been reading through this thread, I have my first sprint tri this weekend. HP, how did yours go? Any tips? I'm an ultra runner mascarading as someone who can just about avoid drowning and who frankly gets a sore arse on the bike after 10 miles, but I've a feeling that this sprint may lead to longer things.... Its an OW (400m, 20k, 5k). I've never run 5km before (my first race was 10km and the distances kinda just went up from there) so I just hope to pace myself ok. Ive done a few brick sessions (both bike/run and swim/bike and once I did all three) but I still cant help feeling distinctly under prepared (i did only give myself 3 weeks to specifically train for this...). Any advice to boost my confidence? Or talk me out of it?! Oh and 400m is taking me 10minutes FC or thereabouts, where should I place myself in the pack?

Mine was cancelled but the next in the series is tomorrow night. I am quite frankly bricking it- and thats not a training term!! Have had some bike issues but think I have it sussed. Have a busy day tomorrow and an appt at 4:15pm which will have to be brief. Luckily I wil be too busy to panic too much. I bought lock laces today to save myself several seconds on transition. Every little helps. No advice katie but GOOD LUCK!!

Hi katie and good luck for your first tri. I reckon you'll be well placed to do well. Certainly the run distance shouldn't scare you if you do ultras! If you've done a couple of brick sessions and have a good base fitness level, you should breeze through it. I haven't done an OW swim yet, but I'd say you'll probably just find yourself where you need to be. Some people hang back to avoid the mad scramble at the start and just likerunnning the swim does tend to spread out quite quickly (from what I've seen as a spectator). Just go and enjoy the experience. then come back and tell us all about it!
