I think triathlon etiquette seems to be take everything you need and a spare one judging by some of the vans of stuff I saw turning up! My theory was keep in minimal so you don't faff over choices. But don't forget something warm and dry for afterwards - especially socks and shoes.

not it's not scribbles, triathlon etiquette is getting up in the middle of the night, packing your transition box, loading your bike into the car, setting off for the event, getting half way there and realising you have left you box at home, swearing a few times, turning round, driving home at breakneck speed (you will be very late by now), picking your box up and getting to the event to realise that you have left some vital piece of equipment at home and trying to find a clubmate who has bought spares.
Not that it's ever happened to me like that of course

DD - lol!! I did a couple of dry runs of pool to bike changing of clothes etc in the house this am just to make sure I wasn't forgetting anything glaringly obvious. If not I would've arrived at pool without goggles or cap I had the added challenge today of having to carry a small pack with sports towel, goggles, cap, keys and phone. I will have to give myself minimal options on the day as I am so indecisive it could cost me 10 minutes

Ah!"Transition box"...lots of people had those in at the Bedford Sprint, I didn't relaise they had an actual name. ;-). Most of them seemed to be full of shoes and talc. I had a small towel that I shared with Fetch. On it was my helmet, race belt, sunglasses, shoes and socks. That was it. I even forgot to talc my socks. And forgot my talc, but I managed fine.
Wonder how long it will be before I need a transition box.

Hi RMO3B, I usually swim 400m front crawl in about 9min to 9:30 and that kind of pace puts me to the back of the middle of the swim pack (and I've thrown in the odd breast stroke too). If you guestimate your time, you may find that you can change it nearer the race, when you have a bit more experience and have timed yourself over the distance. Sometimes the organisers even email and ask. Hope that helps and good luck with your tri.
