Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Try "Running Crazy" by Helen Summer. Its a good read & made even better by having a couple of fetchies featured in it.

I just can't get into it, really dull.

I liked Marshall Ulrich's Running on Empty, and have aalso just finished Running Crazy which is indeed a good read.

You could try Bernd Heinrichs Why we run: A natural history amazon.co.uk instead.

Most people seem to hate it, but I really like it. Lots of stuff about insects, and his running experiments with large quantities of beer and honey.

I've started Robin's book a couple of times now, but haven't really got into it. He's a really nice bloke though - joined the running club a little while ago...something to do with Binks I think. And that's who did the reverse 'The Marathon' last year before turning around and running the actual race. He's doing the reverse again this year I think.

It's been interesting talking to him because he's done quite similar stuff to Binks, but with a different result. He's also got a TED lecture if anyone's interested in him talking rather than reading his written word...

I liked it and hated Marshall Ulrich's, he comes across as a total dick in it and I know he isn't from what other ultra runners say about him. Pam Reed's book was ok but out of all the running books I've read I think 'feet in the clouds' about British fell running was about the best and I don't fell run. I've just ordered 'running through the wall' for my Kindle, anyone read that?

I lived Feet in the Clouds until about half way, and then I stopped. Never did finish it. I have (but haven't read) 'What I Think About WITAR' and 'Once A Runner' which someone recommended but I can't think who.

At the risk of sounding like someone off "Sh*t Barefoot Runners Say," have you read Born To Run?

I like "Zen and the Art of Running" by Larry Shapiro. Mainly because it's rare to find a running book that says it's inevitable that you'll quit the damn stupid hobby eventually :)

If anyone wants the Bernd Heinrichs book, don't spend money on it for goodness sake. I have a copy that you can have for the cost of the postage. It's the worst running book I have ever attempted to read. Worse even than the pontifications of John Letmebeyourguru Parker and Danny Televangelist Dreyer.

Why We Run = man fails to run fast marathon, gives up trying to run fast then fails to complete very long run. The End.

I've downloaded a 'sample' onto my kindle and am unable to decide whether it is good, deep, affirming stuff, or whether it is neo-hippy twaddle. Views, please?
