Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

ordered up zen and art of running too for my kindle today when I was in a spending frenzy so thanks velociraptor, good to see a good review for it! I forgot earlier but I've also recently read 'road to endorphia' about a guy running from John O'Groats to Lands End and I kind of liked that because of the way he runs, fuelled on mars bars and rating cheesecake in different parts of Britain, it appealed to me!

I'd like to put in a good word for Relentless Forward Progress - not quite the same animal, but something I enjoy dipping into from time to time when the madness is upon me.

I enjoyed Born To Run and I've been thinking about it again since the sad news about Caballo broke. It's worth a read but there is quite a lot of mince in it. Too much journalism and not enough racing. There are about three good books in one but none of them really has room to breathe in Born To Run.

Born to Run, for me, boils down to, "You'll do better running if you stick a smile on your face." Which sort of fits with my philosophy for life anyway, and I like having my prejudices confirmed in print :)

I'd urge you to have another crack at Feet in the Clouds, GreP. I think I've read it 2 or 3 times now. I haven't read any of my other running books more than once.

Somewhere in the loft or the garage I have a copy of The Complete Book of Running by Jim Fixx. I loved that book and I have been trying to find it for months now. If I've lost it I will be most upset.

A proper classic, that one, Caterpillar :)

And agree with Olly. FITC is a worthwhile read, though it doesn't give you a great deal of the technical "how to do running" stuff.

I've downloaded a 'sample' onto my kindle and am unable to decide whether it is good, deep, affirming stuff, or whether it is neo-hippy twaddle. Views, please?
