Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I only have one rather soft risk factor, Sharkie, which is that as well as having been almost constantly amenorrhoeic from 26 to 35 due to pregnancy and breastfeeding I've had some short episodes of nutritional amenorrhoea due to over-enthusiastic (and unnecessary) calorie restriction to lose weight in my teens and then what would now be called RED-S when I first started running in my late 30s and couldn't eat enough to avoid losing weight. Lots of peak bone-building years potentially lost.

If anyone’s got a New Scientist subscription…. I can only read the first half as I don’t - but thought it might be of interest if anyone does!

Very interesting.

I think it hints that when I took redundancy, feeling completely burnt out and pretty useless, I was actually struggling more with peri/meno than I realised rather than just plain overwork with 3 kids and travelling etc.

I don't regret stopping my career at 45, but a bit more info and support might have made things different and the last couple of years more rewarding than they were.

- the dept I worked in was very male oriented and had evolved into quite a young demographic as well so female peers to talk to were few and far between and my friendship group was spread across the world by then.

I blamed my MH symptoms on CV19 as the worst of them coincided with the pandemic. As I'm hypothyroid and have pernicious anaemia I'm used to the brain fog and who wasn't stressed/anxious at the start of the pandemic? I wasn't having mega hot flushes or anything 'typical' like that. It was my physio who eventually suggested I might want to think about talking to a doctor about HRT as I was seeing her with lots of seemingly unrelated random niggles - she told me that a lot of her patients experienced this as part of the menopause. I'd never heard of that as a symptom.

I managed to forget to bring my HRT with me when I travelled from London to Stockholm last Friday. If I needed any confirmation as to the difference it's made I certainly have it! The brain fog is back with a vengeance. (I'll be reunited with it on Monday, thank goodness).

About This Thread

Last July a blood test indicated that I was going through the menopause (GP did it as due to using D...
