I agree with Nellers. I wouldn't mind running in a race that's explicitly oldies-only, or women-only, but telling me that I am by definition slower than a 40-year-old or a 15-year-old who runs around the same speed as I do is slightly inflammatory.
(OK, I haven't run sub-22 for 5km for a few years. But if it was sub-23 they'd chosen, or sub-25 ... )

If they want to call them fast and slow races they should really be doing it by setting time that you need to be faster than. Doesn't really matter what age/sex you are, I would quite comfortably be beaten by most of the F50 women and M60 men!

Interesting thought, though. Local races, you tend to know who you're running against. If you seed the race by time then you will split categories, with maybe three vet Ladies in one race, and others in the other race, and one of the vet ladies in the 'other' race pulls an absolute blinder, a massive PB and wins the category. The ladies in the 'faster' race might have had a chance to chase a bit better if the lady in race B having her breakthrough performance was in the same race as the 'faster' ladies.
They need to split the field somehow. They should just have found a better way to describe it.
