Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

DOn't worry John, I have a watcha nd a Garmin, and as Gobi will tell you I am the worst exponent of the Tempo run in the known world. Even WITH a Garmin I can get my pacing so wrong it's not funny.

Ahh stop kidding CLiffy, we all know youknock 5min / miles out like its a walk in the park...

Yup, if HRM had an anti-idiocy function, it would be useful. As it is, it just serves to show up how stupidly I pace every run I go on.

It's like a gremlin, a small fairytale like creature that sits on your shoulders with a watch and a sextant. By tracking the sun and stars it does some incredibly complicated mathematics and works out where the hell you are, how fast you are travelling, and how much time you have escaped the other half for.

Beware, they have a mischeivous side, and are prone to lying in areas of heavy tree cover, thus making you rn faster for no reason.

Some men with very big heads are trying to make a mechanical version to render the Garmins obsolete, but so far they can only come up with something called a MAp Engine which requires 3 horses to pull it and a degree in calculus and some WD40 to use.

Who knows, by the 21st century they'll make one small enough to be worn on the wrist.

It's what I use. It whispers in my ear when I'm training...

"if you keep on at this pace you could beat your PB, I won't tell GObi if you don't...."

Cool so it's a GPS for runners. That would save me driving my car around measuring my runs. Also stop the farmers chasing me as I drive accross their feilds.
