Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I bougt a Karrimor Raid Elite bottle belt for £3.75 yesterday. RRP was £17.99, although I think it is possible to get them for much less than that, but not usually as low as £3.75. I can't normally afford to buy any new equipment, but at that price I thought I'd take the bait and carry two 500ml bottles instead of the runner's bottle I normally use that holds less than 500ml.

As the belt also has pockets, I decided to also carry my phone and some change, which I don't normally do, along with a banana that I thought I might eat during the run. Before I even got to the end of the road, I turned back and took the coins out because they were jangling away so much and the belt was bouncing a bit too.

Eventually I discovered how to stop the bottles bouncing so much, and when they became a bit emptier it became much more comfortable to carry them. Like Ian, I'm glad I did carry 1 litre of fluid with me, as I drank it all during my 16 mile run and after drinking another 0.5 litre when I got home, I weighed myself and found I was still 2.5kg lighter than when I started. That means I must have lost about 4 litres in sweat during the run, or about 1 litre every 4 miles.

And what happened to the banana? It completely turned to mush and I had fun cleaning the belt afterwards.

True true. Once I'd got it down to about 80% full it was good and I liked it. I liked not having to stop because I kept my rhythm. It would be idal for next half marathon because I always stop for drinks and lose a fair bit of time.

I just did a test with a measuring jug and 1.4 litres does fill to the brim. No human could run with that on their waist comfortably. But as you say, you can pull the water lung out and put it any kind of rucksack. This complaint only goes for the Flasflo. I haven't used another type.

Well my run today was just lucky! I'm on-call, so had to go out clutching my mobile. Last time I tried this it rang before I'd done half a mile, so imagine my amazement when I did 5.5 miles with no call at all! Very chuffed, most unexpected. Felt good today and ended up being a little faster than I'd planned. No long run though, so will have to fit 11 miles into the week somewhere.

I've been given a belt which holds up to 8 litttle bottles of fluid round the waist. There were 6 bottles left when i inherited it & a pouch for presumably a gel which holds the mobile nicely. It is fab. I honestly can't feel it's there even with the 6 bottles on it & it's been a lifesaver in the heat.

Spec on marathon training plan for today was 13miles at 8 pace. Did 13.36M av 7 55 pace all off road so pretty encouraging. Did stop twice for a drink mind & stopped clock!

Ran in the rain today, a welcome relief, the first rain for a long time. I enjoyed it, except that I shouldn't have worn a cotton running vest, it got a bit heavy at the end. The rain was a novelty, wonder if I feel the same in December?
