As there is an 80% WAVA forum thread I wondered if anyone would be interested in joining one for 80%. Toi get the ball rolling I have a general aim each year to try for 80% across at least three distances. After a bad year last year I didn't make it to even one. This year I managed a NYD parkrun at 81% so will be aiming for the same at a couple of other distances - although looking at the Fetch standards it's going to be a big ask. Any hints and tips appreciated.

Oops - that should have said as there is a 70% WAVa thread - not the best start to a forum.....:)

Why not, I often make the high 70's and have hit 79.xx a few times. I've never made 80% on a properly measured course

I suppose I should be here rather than the 70s thread. I managed 80 plus for three distances for about five years though it's become a lot harder at my least favoured (the longest) one, and 78.xx was the best I could do for 200m last year.

However my 'best' distance nabbed me my highest ever WAVA this month - 86.46.

Perhaps I will be on both - as I'm still after 70% on the long jump and high jump I'm after 75%

I guess the only advice/hint I have about securing the WAVAs you want is to be sureof your 'best' distances and then not to spread yourself too thin.

I rarely take my own advice and find myself compromising my sprints by doing something daft like shot put immediately beforehand....

This was the case only ten days ago.

I've been just over 80 a couple of times in each of the last 2 years, but annoyingly never managed it at 3 different distances to get the Gold standard on the Race Standards page.

I seem better at shorter distances, but currently targeting ultras for this year, so not sure I'll be lucky enough to get the course and weather suitable on the few shorter races that I'll do.

Well done Sharkie, 86.46 % WAVA is amazing !

Good to seem some interest in the 80% + . For me, as I get older, WAVA is the new PB

Lurking. Just one 80% WAVA is my long term goal, but at the moment I'm still at the point of needing to beat my PBs from over a decade ago to get there.

Well done Sharkie - amazing WAVA.

My aim is to try & get my Fetch Gold Standard back this year. I have so far managed it at 5km and hope to get a half marathon & marathon this year. I'm not too far off on the half so may give it a go at the big London half in March (if my marathon training legs aren't too heavy!).

My highest ever WAVA was 80.60%, that was on a course where the course measurement was definitely off. It was nominally a 10k but Garmin did not even register is as 6 miles.

80.04% is the highest, at the Scottish 5k championship, so that was a definite legitimate score.
