Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Yes, that's my opinion of the DD course too. Apart from the killer climb up from Badgers Holt, at 10k, the first 13 miles down to Ashburton are comfortable and inviting. The work starts on the long climb out of Ashburton. The steep downhill that is difficult to run is the drop into Widdecombe. Although the remainder of the course is less steep it can often be into a headwind, just to be a little more challenging 😀

Thanks @Big_G, @Fenners-Reborn and @Shades. I think the people I may be looking out for at DD won't be the front runners - I won't see them between the start line and the post-race party - but other back markers who might be company for the section that comes after the marathon point.

I've bounced back fairly well from Belfast - better than I did after Newport, so the second bout effect must be in operation (or maybe it was the sports massages, or the carb loading, or the Vimto gel) - apart from an uncomfortable blister under my right big toe nail that I'm hoping won't become infected. Shoe choice is still a work in progress.

Congrats on your finish at Belfast, @Velociraptor. Fantastic effort.

And losing a toenail is a badge of honour! Hope it doesn’t hurt too much.

Thanks @JackFW :) You're up next for a sub-4 attempt.

The toenail is improving and if it's what prompts me to start being more mindful of the amount of space I have in the front of my shoes it might turn out to be a good thing. I'm now in possession of a pair of Saucony Endorphin Speed 4, lightly preused and really cheap on Marketplace, half a size up from anything else I own. I tried them out on a short run this morning and will give them a whirl over something longer and hillier next week.

@Velociraptor, hope the new shoes work out for you. I have never worn Saucony.

I have just clocked up 1000km in my Brooks Ghosts 14, so I am due some new shoes myself. I think I will just go the same again as they worked well and no major foot problems. Brooks have a sale on now.

I saw that I am next. I was hoping someone else would sign up to a race sooner to take the pressure off! 😂 Seriously though, I am in a good space at the moment having just ran a half in 1:49 on the weekend and have no injuries (touch wood) although a minor ankle niggle. I will be stepping up the mileage soon, so let’s hope the body sticks together!

I did a 29km run today through the hills (elevation gain 453m) near the family home in the countryside today.

It completely stuffed me but I was very happy with the effort (9:04 per mile). A 6:45min improvement on the last time I completed the route in April 2023.

Well done @JackFW :) That's a good long run for this point in the marathon cycle.
