Something about this 10k that I really love, despite the fact that a good proportion is run around an uninspiring airfield! Maybe it's the PB potential or maybe just the excellent encouraging marshalling or time of year - or all 3 factors - I don't know. This will be my 4th consecutive year of doing this race so I'd say it was a personal favourite!
UPDATE: Maybe I shouldn't have run today, was feeling very sick and had to keep slowing down to a walk to let my heaving stomach settle. Plus sudden pain in my left calf muscle had me hobbling the last 1k to the finish line!! Despite that I'm still glad I did it - friendly encouraging marshalls kept me going and this race always has a nice atmosphere. Hope to be 100% well for my 5th Andy Reading next year then!
Lovely race, very well organised and fantastic support from the marshalls. Shame my performance was not to match it. By 2K my lungs hurt, by 3K I was coughing and spluttring. I saw Bridget at 7K and wanted to pull out. Thanks for the encouragement Bridget, I ran/walked to the finish. Moral of the story is if you feel so poorly do not run. I was beaten by Dad by 5 minutes. Now I will either quit, or I will fight harder. Dad is going to pace me to a sub 60 if he can get into the race we are thinking about. Still coughing and spluttering now. Nice to meet Simon and IanM and HeidiM.
Will be first race coming back from injury - PB unlikely.
Conditions were still and quite mild; and I ran (?my first?) intelligent race. Began brightly but resisted the temptation to chase. Some people flew by but I managed to keep with those who just edged by and managed my speed through them. Got to half way in 21.36 - steady 4.20 pace. Got to the 6km marker thinking I'd done 7 but even that didn't phase me - though kms 7, 8 and 9 were in the high 4.20s. Charged home in 43.42 for 106th place out of 435 and a total improvement of 111 seconds in my 10K time this year. What a way to finish. Saw Fetchies a plenty -all lovely.
4 seconds outside PB and to be honest I did not run well. Flat course made it definite PB potential but I set of too fast and struggled near the end. No mental strength!!! Disappointing as I think I am capable of better. Nevertheless another sub 40 min 10K
Rapidly downgrading my predicted time - but still hoping for a PB.** Update**PB achieved, and better time than I'd hoped. Won't be gun time, though, as I was still strolling down a side road as the gun went.
First actual 10k race.. so whatever happens this will be a PB!
2nd lady. Happy enough given very interrupted training of late thanks to bicycle accidents and a stitched knee from XC fall last week. Looking forward to getting some good training in now Thank you for an excellent race again Alchester.
7th, poor run comments in training log.
PB but under the weather with chest infection
Had no idea I could run that fast! In fact could have done better if I had concentrated for the full 10k and not chatted to other runners half way round!
Flat, fast course - no wind - perfect running weather.
