Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Still standing outside places for the 10pm news when there’s definitely nothing happening.

People who leave their dogs outside to bark incessantly in the early hours. I’ve been trying not to listen to them since the noise roused me from my slumber before 3am. I do not have the energy or presence of mind to determine their location in such a built up area. I assume the owners either work nights, or sleep like the dead, to be unaffected by their pets’ endeavours.

My mother in law got a rescue dog that didn’t bark, she taught the fecking thing to bark!

Ally-C I’d like to assume MiL taught the dog to bark in certain circumstances, rather than repeatedly over a prolonged period.
They were quiet last night, so I’m hoping for the same again tonight.

Agreed! The Civil Aviation Authority engineering multiple choice exams questions were often worded in such an ambiguous way that you’ve probably need a degree in code breaking to understand what they were asking.
It’s supposed to be an exam to test your knowledge of the subject, not how to decipher ambiguity!

The civil service judgment assessment thing is acutely terrible - you get presented with a scenario and some actions you might take in light of it, and they're all usually terrible options. Or, at best, a single action that ought to be part of a larger sequence or plan.

And then you have to give each option an 'effectiveness' ratings. You're supposed to determine if they're counterproductive, ineffective, partially effective, or effective.
No single action in the face of a complicated problem is every going to be entirely effective - they will always be dependent on what else you're doing. If you only did exactly the thing described in a single option they are all ineffective or counterproductive. All of them.

For any one of them to be even partially effective you have to assume a bunch other stuff not explicitly contained in any single option (which is exactly what you're told not to do in the introduction to the test).

I hate them.

Same is roughly speaking true of the ITIL exams.

They're even worse when you get to the written answers because a lot of the right or best answer is purely subjective or even a matter of opinion!

Nope, just bark, as it does when it’s excited. It’s now a pain in the arse. Once it starts it takes some stopping.

Chewing gum. More specifically, everybody who drops it on the pavement outside every single bar/restaurant.

Why would she want that? :-(
