About Me
In 2017 I was very overweight (19 stones plus). I had progressively arrived at that condition over the course of a few years poor diet and zero exercise, shrugging it off as not too bad. Then, a picture taken by a friend drew my attention to just how far I'd let it go.
Cue a concerted effort to walk more and eat less. Plus a few weeks of mustering the courage to attend my local parkrun (inspired by a couple of people I know posting about it on FB).
28th October 2017 I walked around my local (hilly) parkrun in 43:45, and thus started my new life. Over the following months, I lost in the realms of 4 stones in weight as a result of the exercise and a better diet. When parkrun was paused, I had attended 93 of them at 44 different locations. Working some Saturdays was the only thing that prevented me going every week, whether it be as a runner or volunteer.
In April 2019 I joined my local running club, and in April 2020 I finally invested in a Garmin watch (having run 'naked' up until that point).
I think it is not unreasonable to call myself a runner now.
