Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The fact I've just missed my stop on the train, and to compound matters the train is now delayed before it gets to the next stop

The use of the word "staycation" to mean holidaying in the UK, implying that a "proper" holiday is one abroad.

I always thought a staycation was a "holiday" at home spending time doing touristy holiday things in your local area. A trip to Skeggy for a week was just a holiday, not a staycation.

To me it’s a all holidays.

You either stay at home and don’t go anywhere, or maybe you do day trips. Or maybe you go away somewhere in the UK for a while, or maybe you go abroad.

I find it degrading to refer to not going abroad as a staycation. It’s almost like it’s an us and them scenario, where people who don’t holiday abroad are somehow second class citizens.

We holiday in the UK through choice, and having had a few holidays abroad, it’s nice not to have to waste two days of the holiday just travelling. (I do conceded that if someone living in the south chooses to holiday in Scotland for example, or vice-versa, there will be a considerable number of hours travelling).

Another one who dislikes the word staycation. If I’m off my work I’m on holiday wether I’m here doing day trips, further afield in Britain or abroad.
